The Illinois State University Peer Institutions are intended to be used for non-salary comparisons. This list of institutions was determined by a third party the Illinois Board of Higher Education engaged to conduct a study of the Illinois public universities in the early 2000s.
In fall 2021, a workgroup at Illinois State University was formed to review this list of institutions. The workgroup is in its final stage of this review and a revised list of institutions will be released soon.
Comparing Illinois State University to other institutions for salary purposes is an intricate process. Illinois State University uses the Carnegie classification system, sector (e.g., Public, 4-year or above), and geographic region (e.g., U.S. Census Bureau regions) to determine a set of institutions that may be used for salary comparisons of most academic positions and many non-academic positions. The institutions that are appropriate to use for any individual salary comparison may vary from this list, depending on a number of factors such as position type, employee classification, academic discipline and the like.
